Apple Music Studios

Creative Direction, brand guidelines, Art Direction and Design
Apple Music introduced Apple Music Radio, as part of a rebrand pushing artists to the center of the platform. It includes shows hosted by musicians, DJs, and tastemakers, recorded or live streamed from Apple-owned studios around the world. My role was to redesign existing studios and design new studios to match the reimagined brand vision.

In contrast to Apple’s more corporate aesthetic, the rebrand was artist-driven, playfully expressive and connected to community. It was about making artists feel at home, and integrating Apple Music into their world, not the other way around. That shift became the foundation for how we approached the redesign.

To guide this work across existing and new studios, I interpreted the visuals from digital marketing assets into a set of experiential brand guidelines that defined the look and feel of Apple Music Studios. These guidelines ensure each studio is a reflection of the city’s musical culture, and consistent to Apple’s brand.

These guidelines defined design considerations for everything an artist might experience: from the entry artwork that welcomed them, to the photography, local art on the walls, and the on-camera studio design. It created a flexible but consistent framework my team’s designers worked from.

In addition to the guidelines, I also took a hands-on role for many of the spaces. I built mood boards, set tone, and led my design team in creating custom designed branding. I worked directly with local artists to select or create pieces for the spaces. I also collaborated with production and build vendors to ensure all custom built design elements matched the vision, and were seamlessly integrated.

Below are three of the nine studios across the world that I collaborated on.

New York City
Hip Hop
Stark, Linear, Adaptable
Nashville
Country
Warm, Ivory, Textural

Berlin
Electronic
Underground, Industrial
I also led the design of the on-camera look for each studio. I designed backdrops with linear or grid patterns and integrated lighting that would change color to match different shows, genres, and artists. The goal was to create dynamic, visually striking spaces, with a consistent and recognizable brand.
